MARK 7
I have a chance to purchase a 510 with upgraded mark 7 (done by company) and a band saw for $1100.00. I believe it is worth it but how can I check out the head and make sure it is operational? I was rebuilt January 2015.
Thanks
Thanks

A lot depends on your location. Check on E Bay and Craigs list for prices near you. A good bandsaw usually goes for about $150 to $200 on average. A good condition 510 should be about $700 to $900 depending on actual condition and location.
I would go to look at it and wave $800 at the owner and see if he bites.
All this depends on what you mean by upgraded to Mk7. If you mean double tilt and that is important to you for your intended use then you may want to offer more. I would not have a use for double tilt so I would not offer anything for that feature. But that is only my personal opinion. Others may ( and probably will ) have differing opinions. I am an inherent cheapskate so I try to low ball.

Re: MARK 7
If you mean it has been factory-upgraded to a PowerPro headstock, that is a great price. If the headstock runs, snap it up quickly.woodmeister wrote:I have a chance to purchase a 510 with upgraded mark 7 (done by company) and a band saw for $1100.00. Re: MARK 7
It is a 510 minus the fence. Don't see tubes. Band saw is aluminum table. Also has original motor. The head was(I am told) sent to shop smith to install the new computer update. I will check it out and if it runs good I will purchase it. If I can sell old motor, band saw separately I think I could get $350 out of them. This would leave me paying $750 for newer head.
I appreciate your reply.

That would be like getting the factory PowerPro upgrade at a $1000 discount, with the 510 thrown in for free!woodmeister wrote:It is a 510 minus the fence. Don't see tubes. Re: MARK 7
You said it has the original motor? Doesn't the mark 7 upgrade include the 1 3/4 HP motor?
Re: MARK 7
Can you send a pic? If it is upgraded to a Power Pro headstock then run and get it. We can tell from a pic.

I thought that the New Mk7 was sold with or without the PP headstock Am I right or wrong?

Re: MARK 7
This would make it a PowerPro and if it is otherwise a complete Mark 5 (or Mark 7), you have yourself a good deal.woodmeister wrote:It is a 510 minus the fence. Don't see tubes. If the new motor is anything other than a PowerPro, there is room to argue whether it is a "good deal" or not.
"If I can sell the old motor" If the headstock was sent to Shopsmith for upgrade, I doubt that you will have the old motor.
BOTTOM LINE: Too many unanswered questions to make a definitive statement about value.

A MK 7 from the mother ship only comes with the PP head stock.wa2crk wrote:Can you send a pic? If it is upgraded to a Power Pro headstock then run and get it. We can tell from a pic.
