Inherited Shopsmith
I inherited my dad's shopsmith which he purchased new about 53 or 54. It has not been used since about 1970. What if anything should be done to it before use ? Thanks

Re: Inherited Shopsmith
Is it a 10ER (cast iron with open belt and pulleys) or a Mark V the motor contained inside the housing and an aluminum headstock (originally green) with a speed dial?
ON that time line it could have been either. Post some photos please.
What to do will depend on the model but cleaning, inspection, lubrication, alignment and how to use safely, should all precede actual use.
As stated above, the first two posts in Maintenance is the index to the bible on Mark V.
