Then I found a post by Thepps on Lumberjocks, Landscape Lighting Lanterns, and decided to give it a shot.
This was the most intricate woodwork I had ever attempted. No planer or bandsaw available at first, I was using the SS table saw, SS conical disk sander, and/or a portable belt sander to make the thinner parts. That convinced me to get a used SS bandsaw and I was able to re-saw the parts much faster.
Posts are 4x4 PT, stained/sealed with Olympic Cedar Stain & Seal (same as used on the fence). The lanterns are cedar and treated with Dalys Seafin Ship n Shore and some semi-gloss poly. The windows were cut from Lexan and sanded on both sides. LED lights inside are bright and very low wattage.
Afraid I didn't get any WIP pics. This first pic shows a lantern on (near) the patio fence I posted here as my first SS project. I only put it there temporarily so I could see how it looked. Ms Twist declared that it shall stay right there! I had originally thought about putting one on the actual fence post, but we agreed that we like that naked gnome right where he is.

This next pic (sort of WIP) shows two lights in place and one of the broken store-bought lights. Had to wait to bury the wires 'til after the lawn aeration was done. There are now three lights out there, but I don't have any pics.

Ms Twist likes them so much that she wants several more in the back yard. What have I gotten myself into?
