I was looking at some of the recent SPT photos on some of the threads here and was trying to figure out how long the legs were. My band saw and jointer legs are about 6 1/2 inches long; is that the right length?

I assume you are referring to the 'external' length.

Now the criteria is the allow secure mounting and height positioning to the shafts.

The jointer 'legs' are quite short(much shorter than 6 1/2"). That reduces the height it must be raised over the mounts to insert them.

6 1/2" seems about right for the bandsaw.

That's interesting because the legs in the photo are from my jointer. How short should they be?

Thank you for the parts breakdown Dusty but what I am really looking for is to know how long the legs should be on the jointer? The band saw leg length makes sense it's just my jointer leg length that I think is a little excessive or do they need to be that long for support just like the band saw legs???

From the 2 SS jointers I have dealt with those are longer, mine are about 3.5 inches, maybe some one at some time put the wrong ones on it.

It was my intention when I posted the two parts breakdowns to show that the two are not the same length.

The one for the band saw is 6 1/2" long ((total length). The one for the jointer is 3 1/2" long as previously reported).

There is still another one that is used on the strip sander that is even longer. I don't know how much longer as I do not own a strip sander.

If someone wants the leg length of the strip sander, belt sander, old jig saw, and scroll saw I have all of those that I can measure.

I ended up loosing my legs for my strip sander, took it apart to refurbish and when it came time to put it back together the legs were no where to be found. I still have not found them but I did get a fresh new set from shopsmith. Another mystery that might involve the 8 dimension and worm holes.

What do you recommend cutting these down with? A pipe cutter or a metal cutting band saw blade?
