A who knew (Shopsmith upgrade minus manuals)

It has just come to may attention that when you upgrade to a Mark 7 you don't get the new Mark 7 manual. Yes you get a Powerpro manual but that is it. No Mark 7 manual.

Now when I upgraded my 500 to a 520 they sent me a nice manual 845525 11/04 that covered the new table system. A worth while addition since a lot of things changed. That manual has the "D" section covering the operations, pages D1 through D23.

It appears if I want the added pages and revisions that pertain to the Mark 7 added functionality then I will have to spend another $35 to order the manual!!!!!!! This is not typical of the old shopsmith who I knew and loved.

I honestly feel that this should have been added as a supplement when you buy the upgrade and not an extra cost add on.

So how are you other Mark 7 upgrade customers feel about this? Willing to spend the $35 or feeling ripped off?

Or do I have my wired crossed and everyone else got the information except me?

I have no experience with this but that doesn't sound right. I would be livid. I would try to find online copies until I got too frustrated, then fork over the cash. I could scan the sections you need later on tonight if you would like....

Actually, I dunno if the early sections would match up or not. Every page of mine says "Mark 7" at the top.

Well, actually if one purchases a PowerPro upgrade I see no reason why they should expect to see a Mark 7 Users Manual. They did not purchase a Mark 7; they purchased a PowerPro Upgrade.

However, I do agree that Shopsmith is no longer providing the kind of support that they once did. This is especially true when seeking documentation.

This would be completely different if the needed data was available online but it most often is not.

If it is so, reminds me of the medical/medical insurance field, charge for any and every little thing. At least they should give you a down loadable one.

I got the Mark 7 upgrade package of powerpro and dual tilt, the only difference is I upgraded rather then purchased new. And when I did the 500 to 520 upgrade they included a new manual with all the current 520 information................................................................................................................................................ so since I now own an equivalent Mark 7 but no documentation of the added features policy at shopsmith must have changed.

I guess if I hurt myself doing something not covered by a manual because shopsmith didn't provide one then the lawyers could make some hay with that.

Gut feelings say they didn't do it right.

Please no coping of copyrighted materials, even if I feel they owe me some information....

Manuals should be available for download, no charge. If you purchase used as I did, having access to the manuals is a safety issue. I've had no problem downloading manuals for my other tools from Bosch, Craftsman, and Jet.

I have also downloaded manuals before purchasing, if a product has good documentation that's a big plus in my buying decision. I don't mind paying for quality printed manuals, but I like to know exactly what I'm buying first.

I'll have to check tomorrow on what is/isn't included with the existing upgrade (PowerPro, Double Tilt) manuals, sounds like we may have missed some of it. In the meantime, a summary version of the MARK 7 manual is available as part of our Getting Started series at:
