81 Mark 5 conversion to 520 and Power Pro.

OK new project, I am going to upgrade my 1981 Mark 5 to a 520 with a Power Pro Conversion.
Here is the subject of this conversion.

It sounds great! I'm sure those Wide 500 Aux tables would be easy to sell if you chose to, also.

Yes the tables will be going to be sold, either to someone that wants to buy them outright or on ebay.

Started soda blasting the Headstock and covers today, wow, after the paint was off I found casting flaws that evidentiary were filled, so after priming I used autobody filler glaze, will and them tomorrow and reprime and paint "New Shopsmith Gray.

Today I painted the Headstock, motor cover and belt cover. Then soda blasted all of the aluminum parts. Found out the Head Stand has 2 serious cracks, bought another on ebay.

The ext table(s) on the left are a modification.(two 4" tables)
Even though neither one can be used with the tubes, they are handy to have(they still provide support).
IIWM, I would definitely keep the 'dual 4 inch' one.

I made the Dual table after I bought the wider table, a simple aluminum plate tied the 2 together.

Just received a phone call from SS, my Power Pro is shipping tomorrow!
I ordered it March 21,2016, 37 days or about 5 1/4 weeks, not bad!

Personal observation, in 1957 much more attention was paid to castings, finer touch up grinding, more attention to casting flashing removal, etc. a lot more work to clean up a 81'casting to prepare for paint, casting flashing all over the place and coarser grinding on portions where casting flaws were ground smooth. Everything is ready for primer, then onto paint.Not today though, it is raining here today. Hopefully it will clear up enough tomorrow to get it done.This time of year I prefer outdoor priming and painting, less set up work.
