Incra I-Box Jig

I finally sprung for an Incra I-Box jig. They had an email special with an extra $25 off plus their already $42 off the retail price for the combo with the Forrest 1/4 and 3/8 box joint blades. I made a spline jig a while ago but had not bought a flat tooth grind blade to use with it so this was a perfect time to kill two birds with one stone. Checking around I could not find a cheaper price buying the jig and the blades separately.

I ordered it on 10 May, it shipped on 12 May and I got it on 17 May via UPS. I put it together yesterday in about 30 minutes with absolutely no issues.

Today I went out to make some saw dust. The first attempt was close but the pins were just under 1/128 too wide. I re-calibrated and it was much better but the fit was very tight (the first joint picture). Hmm...now what? There was not anything about this problem in the calibration/set up instructions. I thought the manual must address this. On the last page (which I had not read) there it was. How to adjust for pins too wide. A quick tweak and a perfect fit (second joint picture). Had I looked at first the problem would have been solved immediately.

The blade is set too high. That is why the pins protrude so far through. Not a problem since this was just a test.

The Forrest blades are superb as expected. Absolutely perfectly flat bottoms and NO tear out as the pictures show. I set up the blades for a 3/8 grove and according to my fractional caliper it is dead on.

The jig is fully adjustable for any size box joints up to a full stacked dado. The quality is second to none as those that have Incra products know.

There are instructions for use on a table saw and a router table and they make a version for the SS miter bar.

The I-Box is top notch and performs as advertised. Oh, that is my opinion. Others may have a different opinion. :) :D

I love my I Box. I use it mostly on the router table because of the lack of a good flat bottom saw blade but the adjustments for a tight fit are the same. I think the instructions have only one sentence on adjusting the fit but if I remember it's an adjustment to the silver wheel.spin one way it shrinks the gap, spin the other it widens the gap.

Yes, that is it and it works perfectly.

I purchased this setup around two years ago. I had an issue with it (my issue, not the jigs) and did not adjust it correctly. I have since figured out what I had done wrong, but...... have not made the time to get back to it> It is a fine jig and blade combo!

Here's a challenge for your new jig, John.

Can you make a 1/4" box joint that fits well and is 14 inches long?

I ask this because I'd like to see if it is as accurate as my method of tapping a homemade jig with a hammer.

If your jig will let you produce a 14" long box joint, I will buy one and also sing it's praises.

By the way - I always plan for, and saw my box joint fingers long! That allows me to sand off the protrusions flush.
