10er

Post by backhertz »

I am in the process of taking possession of new piece to my collection of Shopsmith machines: a 1950 10ER. I bought it from a gentleman who purchased it in 1950. He's kept it immaculate. He is in his 80's and is a master wood carver who has fun first place prizes in his state fair. I had an opportunity to look at several of his pieces and am simply in awe. What is even more amazing is that he only started carving in 1983 after he retired as a manufacturing engineer. He is now involved with a group of toymakers who make toys for children's hospitals, Shriner's, McDonald House, etc. His 10ER is the best looking one I've ever seen which was simply maintained over the many years he used it.

I've only become interested in Shopsmiths/wood working this past year. I have been very fortunate to meet many master woodcarvers/woodworkers and am in awe of how a simple piece of wood can be transformed into something that I call art.
