Can you buy that? Does anyone sell it or make one separate from the assembly SS sells? Me and a non forum friend picked up used Strip Sanders at the same time. He purchased the replacement assembly and isn't happy with the quality and wants to just change the tire.
I have read about custom makers of tires but have no recollection.
Advice?

Re: Rubber tire for the strip sander
When he purchased "the replacement assembly" just what did he buy? Part number 25 in the replacement part schedule of the strip sander is "the drive wheel and bearing assembly". The wheel comes with a rubber tire.ibskot wrote:Can you buy that? Does anyone sell it or make one separate from the assembly SS sells? Can you explain why he is unhappy with the quality?

The bearings have grease leaking and they roll roughly. I assume the balls inside. Anyway, to the question, any other source for the rubber Tire?
Thanks

Not that I know of. Sounds like he needs the entire wheel. Not just the rubber tire.
If he bought the replacement wheel from Shopsmith, They will replace the faulty wheel free as part of their guaranty. Only need to call them.

Re: Rubber tire for the strip sander
A bit shaky here re details.
He wants to replace the tire on his 'original' wheel/bearing?
The replacement from the MS leaks grease and rolls funky?
If so a call to mother is indicated.
A question - is the 'new' assembly still a water pump bearing, or has it also been replaced similarly to the idler shaft assembly?

Re: Rubber tire for the strip sander
I guess he could call and talk to them...I didn't ask that. He asked about a replacement tire and that is why I posted the question...just trying to help him in his quest. As to all the other questions I have no idea. I could ask but it seemed reasonable for someone to ask about a tire only. You can buy bandsaw tires, why not this?
Oh well.
