Request for Opinion Mark VII and other drawings

I have spent a good bit of time reorienting exploded parts drawings to simplify (hopefully) the perspective of the exploded view.

I have attached a representative example of a Mark VII Headstock drawing to illustrate what's involved that shows such a reorientation with an inset of the original drawing for comparison.

I have much to do on my Mark VII manual restoration project and definitely will continue consulting with JPG as James is arguably 'The Mark VII Guru' among us.

I am still working out details on the various motors and wiring diagrams and wire colors.

My question is this: Do you actually find these reoriented drawings of benefit in visualizing the equipment and how it is assembled?

I do find the reoriented drawing easier to read and visualize. I like the contrasting color of the numbers. It looks professional.
I don't mean to be picky and critique but...does item 26 & 27 also need an "-or-"? Just something I noticed.

I suspect they should since the original has them... Thanks for noticing that as the Mark VII can have one of two motors based on the source drawing, yet as JPG has informed me, there is even a third version of motor available, and I am considering ways to add that with an alternate notation in some way, in the drawing as I continue restoring the Owner's Guide.

You have an eye for detail, and I really appreciate your comments and suggestions. I will add the -or- and try to determine a way to include that information as well.

To my knowledge, they did not produce a Mark VII Owner's Guide that reflected all three. Any Ideas on how to make those notations?

As a point of reference, there is a thread discussing the problems in which JPG and I both discover together that of the two versions of the Mark VII manuals that we know of so far, one, that he noted he sent me, has errors in the wiring diagram of the OEM manual itself.

Not only am I tasked with correcting the wiring diagram of one of the two motors, but adding the third, which of course is drawn in a different perspective from the first two.

I want to present them corrected, and all three in the same visual representation.

I am still pondering how to process those changes in a meaningful way, while updating the diagrams with actual wire colors (including tracers) in a way that makes sense visually.

So far, I am working from a Parts Diagram Only document, and seeking a much more legible Owner's Guide, so I have much to do before I can publish a restored Mark VII version.

For those who observe my work, I have attached a Work In Process sample of wire colors with tracers (a broad spectrum of them) that I prepared as I seek to find a software program into which I can define custom lines and actually draw those connections in a wiring diagram for the Mark VII motors.

Obviously, the motors do not employ anywhere near all of these colors, but in developing a way to use them, I could draw many other types of wiring diagrams.

Anyone out there know of such a freeware or software program that I can buy for under $100? So far I have not found one and that's where I am mired at the moment.

There is no question re the increased understandability of your rearranged drawings.

One suggestion - use colors to indicate different assembly lines(the dashed ones) similar to those in the ER manual rewrite. Especially in the power switch area.

Use GE/AOS/AOSR to distinguish between the 'General Electric', 'A O Smith' and 'A O Smith with relay' motor versions. A foot note would probably be helpful. A disclaimer also since our source is not hands on.(but the original stuff is not all that accurate anyway as well )

Do you need me to scan my Owner's Manual?

Please do. It would be easier for me if pages were individual JPG's or PNG files.

I have some travelling scheduled this week so it will be next week before I could look at doing much with it.

You already sent me the high resolution parts manual piece already which is what I am working from.

That's when we discovered one of the OEM manuals was incorrect on motor wiring diagram.

I plan on filtering everything through you before posting much as I don't have a Mark VII, but I am considering getting one if I can just make some space for it. LOL.... I am wall to wall on hardware right now.

Resolution? Jog my memory. Where is the point of diminishing returns?
