Picked up a Pro Planer today for $200. I think it was a good deal and the guy who sold it to me took quite a bit of time showing me all of the ins and outs. He suggested new knives any recommendations?

Blade sharpening.

New blades from the MS(sit down to prevent sticker shock).

I hope they are wide enough to sharpen.

What size motor(HP) came with it?

I believe it is a 1 3/4 motor. I was thinking the sharpening kit was a good plan but was wondering what git should I use?

If so, either also get the sharpening jig or make one.

If in fact a True Power Pro for $200 think yourself a Fathers Day Gifted!!! Is it a free standing or a SS driven model? For 200$ even if you buy a set of blades fro the MS you are lucky. I dont have one but there are other options out there for blades if they are the right size and configuration.

I don't see the sticker shock here! You got the ProPlaner for a good price and the investment into the sharpening jig and new blades makes it a complete deal.

Discard the blades that you received with the ProPlaner if they are less than 11/16" wide.

It was asked if this was a stand alone or a Mark V mounted ProPlaner.

A ProPlaner is a stand alone the other is referred to as a Mark-Mounted Planer.

Did you know that a Mark-Mounted Thickness Planer can be converted to a "stand alone" by utilizing a Planer Power Stand 505977. However, the Power Stands are not currently available from Shopsmith. Wonder why! There is nothing really unique about the parts used to make a power stand.

Initially yes. 1 1/2 hp IIRC. It also has different pulleys. Cutter speed was increased with the later version. Since he has a 1 3/4 hp motor, he has the stand mounted version and the newer pulleys.

The sticker shock is that new blades will cost half as much as he got the planer for. Yes, still a steal!

If you did not get the blade height setting gauge, do get one.
