Well as I type, Skip at MKC Tools is making a 6" diam Er HS pulley, I am not a metallurgist, but his pulleys weigh about 2x more then the original ones and have casting Manufacturing Names on them the back side, maybe denser Aluminum or Investment Cast, I dont know. They sure make a difference.
With JPGs math and belt size calculations, that puppy will be at 320rpm on the low end of the SC, I dont care about the high end for a dedicate DP, it will be fast enough for most stuff but wanted slower for large diam Fostner bits and to see if we could just do it, Skip and I with JPGs support on the #s. I forgot what top end on an ER with a SC was on the low belt setting, I think about 1100ish rpms, but now I am guessing about 900ish which is fine for my use with smaller bits in wood.
I just hope JPGs belt sizing is correct, after all he did the math on it for Skip
Thats okay JPG I will get them on your calculation and a 1/2 fat and skinny and report in on how close you hit the mark and reward/loose points accordingly.

Me either, doing a 6" on a HS, according to JPG, who the nuns did not teach him to something/ lowest denominator on fractions LOL, but I got it I got the Math, I got low end for Large Fostner Bits in the 200+ range and at top speed I will be about 900rpm, more then I need for wood.
Steeve I just cant figure out why his pulleys weight 2x more and they are from the originals, cast Aluminum also. He is a good guy, no money up front for this. Why, because he is an ER lover too!!!!!!!

It feels SSSOOOOOO nice to be at home and no burden over head, and have some Puccini on.

Take a close look. The cast pulleys have depressions that reduce the amount of metal.

BTW fractions are no longer 'taught' in our 'educational' system same as cursive writing. At least I have been told that.

No need for all that old timey stuff today - we now use computers.

I just got of the phone/camera with Skip, he was on vacation since mid Aug till 9/18, 6" pulley is on the way, I told him no hurry and ordered up an other set of his machined and balanced ER pulleys and the ER tool rest handles for the nephew b4 he went on vacation.
We talked about the nephews Greenie motor that just hums, gave me some great tips, I will be bringing that Monday ad getting to it next week.
He said he had 1800 emails to get back to, maybe just a figure of speech. What a great guy.

Skou/steve, I have no doubt, on any of it, neph will love those handles, Skip answered his phone at 930pm

Update, Skip was out on vacation till mid Sept, he had getting a problem high end 6", it came down to cheap cast junk or a quality cast iron that he could only machine to 5.5" diam so we are going with that in cast iron.
He is so good on communicating and material supplies and options, price/cost finding, and even keeping price the same or updating me on an up charge for the orphan cast iron 5.5" pulley, just a joy to work with. I should have it later in the week or early next and put it on the dedicated ER DP.
He is a class act, plus ordered those Er Lathe thingies for nephew for an early Exmas stocking stuffer.
