Can't get the main (saw) table back on?

Post by 13013 »

Hi there, another silly question I'm sure... One of my shopsmiths is a green(greenie?) base but the table that came with it looks like the mkv 500 table as far as I can tell. I removed the table to try my hand at the lathe, and now I can't get it back on, the teeth just don't grab on the gear. The height adjustment worked fine when it was installed before, and worked fine with the tool rest installed, it just doesn't seat now, is there something I'm missing? Thanks!

Make sure the clamp is 'loose', and rock it until the gear teeth align with the rack teeth.

Thank you, it's back on! (I had to rock it while jiggling the handle, neither of which had occurred to me until you replied.) thanks!

Maybe look at the trunion gears, they are soft metal and get damaged easy, chipped, missing teeth ect, nephew had that that problem on his.

Thanks for the detailed instruction, I have a squeaky head stock lock on the same machine, I suppose I will be following Mickey mouse to the solution. ;)

I think a spot of oil or a file will fix that!
