I had to paint my ER Head Rest yesterday, it just was bad it is the aluminum one. So I could not go further on mounting things until the pain cured for 24 hours. I put the Tie Bar on tonight.
My question is how much length of way tube to leave to the left of the Tie Bar?
I know that maybe arbitrary but want it more or less to factory specs.Yes I know about the 1/8" gap between the tie bare and head rest.

I think the tubes need to extend beyond the tie bar by the thickness of the 'tail stock' casting(1 3/4").

Thanks JPG, that would make sense, I new there had to be a set distance for some of the items that can/could be mounter there.

Just checked mine, I have 2 1/4" past the tie bar. I have no recollection as to how I arrived at that number, on the vertical one it is 1 3/4 which makes more sense. The intent was to leave enough space to mount the tailstock/extension table but I haven't had occasion to do so.

On the other hand it has given me a place to mount a lamp/Allen key holder that doesn't interfere with moving the headstock or carriage.
