have a ss mounted planer barely uses yet the feed motor does not work, Tool two long screws out blew the brushes off and around the wrappings. Don't smell like it was burned and the shaft turns freely when rotated. Hate to buy one if I can fix unit cheaper. Any ideas??
Thanks,
Tom

We have seem several cases of the controller failing so I would not just blame the motor..........

i have a stand alone planer too. I took the motor and plugged it into my stand alone and the gear did not turn. The controller works to turn motor on the planer to operate the cutters but will engage the motor for feeding the work through on the shopsmith mounted planer. any ideas?
Thanks,
Tom

Not a good idea unless it is also a SS planer.
If not, the rest is inconclusive.
The SS controller controls the feed motor only.
Two long screws??????

Yes it is the same motor and controller used in my shop smith stand alone planer. Two long screws hold the casing together and are put into the end with plug wire.
