Look what I found

Post by GoNavy »

Messing around in my dads old shop (he passed back in 05) and in the corner under a cabinet I found a Shopmate Maxi-Clamp system, looks like it hardly got used at all. Dad must have been a Shop Smith junkie, cause he sure had a lot of SS stuff...lol..this thing is really neat, doubt they make it anymore. Not sure why it wasn't more popular, you can make about any clamp setup your imagination can come up with, I especially like the hand knobs...lol...hole is over sized and angled so it can go up/down the threaded rod easily, then once it levels out against something it engages onto the rod and tightens up just like a nut....genius really just genius....probably gonna get some use out of this for sure.

I got one of those with a mark V that I bought a few years ago. I used it a few times and it seemed to work pretty well, but I found it really wasn't my goto clamp(s). I really can't say why, I just don't seem to reach for it .... :/

Sorry for your lose, lost mine in 13. I have bought SS used and all that "dad" bought that came with it, with accessories, some still in the boxes and never used.!!!!

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them. :)

I bought one when they first came out. I initially thought it was pretty neat but ultimately I just did not use it. It just sat unused. I found traditional clamps faster and easier to use. I sold mine on eBay about three years ago.

I bought one of those years ago at a yard sale of a business friend who was a wood hobbyist. It looked unused... I played with it once... The big flat box it was in has become shop worn and dirty just from moving it around. :o
Of course I will keep it, it's a tool... :D
Maybe someday I will find a use for it. :)

Yes shopsmith did such a good deal presenting(selling) these I just had to have a set.

And yes I still have them but a use or two and well they fell short on a lot of fronts.

My box fell apart from moving them around so I found some drawer space for them and now they haven't been touched in years.

I even got some extra quick knobs for mine, and I do use those but not with the shopsmith clamps.

It was like those great looking desserts that are made healthy, they look so good but......
