Mark VII Fence question

Got a question. Finally got around to using the table saw function on the Mark VII and may or may not have a problem. The fence seem to lock in position but the lever on top does not lock into a down position. It seems it should stay in the depression in the top of the fence, otherwise why is the depression there? I do notice the cam under the operator side of the fence is worn down where it should lock in Looks like it needs a bigger washer to get back to the original shape of the cam.

JPG. did you post tear down and reassembly of the Mark VII fence in your restoration? If so can you direct me to the post you made with reference to all the components. I have seen it but can't seem to find it in the search box. Apparently not putting the right description in the box.

As mentioned near the end, the cam wear can be compensated for by adjusting the rear nut.

If I get an opportunity, I will edit to place the pix and text back to where is was before the new forum software was acquired.

I have tried in vain to adjust the rear nut to get the lever to stay down. I know it boils down to a very fine adjustment, At the point where the lever will stay down, the fence is slightly loose. As a fix, I inserted a 5/16" bolt in the threaded hole in the side of the fence with an aluminum piece and another 6-32 bolt that I can flip over the lever to hold it down until it can be fixed properly. I am just not sure exactly how it is put together but do believe a slightly larger washer to replace the one that contacts the cam would solve the problem.

After looking at my own pictures, I think a po has the washers reversed on the shaft. Looks like the one with the larger diameter should be next to the cam??

I took a look at a second fence I have(unaltered since received) that appears to have very little cam wear. The washer sequence was a small(3/16" washer that has a 1/4" hole) against the cam and the thicker washer between it and the sleeve. (No larger id washer)

I think to compensate for the cam wear a larger washer(with a 1/4" id)(think fender washer with od cut down to fit) would help.

I took this sucker apart with a band of painter's tape around where the springs are so they wouldn't go into space, reversed the two washers next to the cam, put it back together, adjusted it and now it works like a champ.

By the way, with reference to your post regarding the nylon bushing, this one has a steel bushing. No nylon that I could see.
