Jigsaw Oil

The owners manual for the jigsaw recommends 10w machine oil. I found Singer machine oil at a crafts store. Only problem is that it doesn't specify 10w. Any recommendations on this or other machine oil. Thanks in advance..Joe

Get some air compressor oil(much less $$$).

Save the sewing machine oil for the sheaves.

Most/some auto parts stores have it or can get it. We have a chain called O'Reilly and a quart ran me $4.29. If you live in CA. that maybe be a problem as they often refer to as non-California oil....... I think that is cheaper then you can find air compressor oil even in 16 oz containers but I haven't purchased any of that in a while.

I have been using turbine oil in the zoom spout bottle for years. Works on the sheaves. With the long pull out spout (6" or 7") it is great. Also use it on the 10ER speed changer. There are various brands and the big box stores sell it here.

In fact I just filled up my jig saw the other day since it has a leaky gasket.

I haven't taken the one I just bought apart yet, and was wondering if I could buy some flat gasket DIY material for automotive and fabricate a gasket. The unit I acquired is NOS never used, but bought in the mid 1980's. He kept his Mark V and Bandsaw which he uses frequently.

I certainly can change the oil out to Compressor oil as you suggest, and wondered if there is anything else I should service. It still has all the new OEM Jigsaw Blades in the original tubes, sealed with tape.

Thanks for any recommendations. I am looking forward to learning how to use it, and it may well be the first tool I introduce some grand kids to once I get going.

I made my Magna Jigsaw gasket 3-4 years ago and it hasn't leaked a drop. I honestly don't remember if I used a roll of cork gasket material or a Frosted Mini Wheats box. I have used both for various gaskets over the years and they both work great if you properly prepare and clean the mating surfaces.

I would think any gasket material should work and yes I need to make a new gasket for mine. It is one of those little things that needs to be done.

It is turbine oil not compressor oil. Home Depot has it in the swamp cooler parts area. There are many brands and some say turbine oil and some don't but I think they are all the same. The common denominator seems to be Zoom Spout Oiler.

As for anything else to lube, yes. The air pump seal. From the manual...
