For some time now I have been having issues with the plastic 4 inch blast gates that are available. The track that the gate itself travels in gets clogged and they are very difficult to clean out. Another issue is they sell them with and without a small opening in the gate when it is fully closed which does not allow for them to be completely shut. I had a mixture of the two. Over the last two days I decided to use up my scraps of 3/4 and 1/4 ply and make my own. I cannibalizes the plastic ones to use just the fittings which work well. To build in the stops I used a jig on the router and small pieces of 5/8 dowel glued into the gate. So far they seem to work well.
