I will likely be buying a used DC3300 next weekend in a town about 100 miles away. I need something for my garage shop that pulls less power and is smaller and more portable than my big HF DC in my backyard shop.

I'm trying to figure out the height to see if it will fit in the back of my Forester, rather than taking my trailer, or if I'd need to do some disassembly (and if so, how much) to the DC3300 or remove my dog divider in the car (not quick, but not all that hard). I have about 42" between wheel wells, plus a little more at the very back behind the wheel wells, to possibly put it crosswise. I know Shopsmith says the height is 48", but doesn't say to where; is that to the top of the handle, the top of the included bag inflated, the top of the upper bag rim, something else? Could someone please measure the height to the top of the upper housing and the top of the handle?

To the top of the handle is 41 1/2". But, to the top of the fan housing is 45".

Thanks! That's totally backwards from how it appears from the shopsmith.com photos and manuals.

Congratulations on your upcoming acquisition! Hope these help. Also, in plan, "footprint" is about 26" x 21", if case vertical clearance is an issue when lying on its back or side.

The assembly (or dis-assembly) instructions are also available as a pdf on Shopsmith's website, to help you know what tools to take and how it comes apart.

Thanks for the photos. Guess it will probably be easier to take the dog fence off in advance than disassembling the DC (in possible rainy and/or cold conditions) and then I won't have any problems. The fence bottom is too low to fit the 21".

FWIW, I took one for a long ride in the front passenger seat(tilted full backwards) of an 86 honda accord. Even the seat belt operated correctly.

That big foot was my major concern.

My only source of dimensions was the ss web site. Since the 'ride' was over 200 mi(one way), I was relieved when it 'slipped' in as planned.

IIWM, I would pick it up in an 'empty' vehicle.

Hmm, I wonder if you put a wig on it if it would pass for a passenger for those cities that have HOV lanes?

Yeah, the back seat will empty, probably the whole car other than me.
