Aluminum Faceplate

Post by jdonovan »

My 3-3/4" faceplate is aluminum (part #505590). It looks like the new ones are cast. Anyone know why the change or if I should have any concerns using the aluminum one? Thanks in advance Joe

I have one of the aluminum plates too. I use with no problems or concerns. I'm not an expert at turning, but I see no reason not to use yours.

I have and use the cast iron one. I did have the aluminum one but got rid of it. I don't think that you will notice a vast difference. I like to have a heavier weight because the weight dampens some vibration. There are no concerns using the al one I just have a personal preference for the extra weight.

The AL ones are fine. I have them and have a CI version, I mostly use the AL. My AL ones came with my new machine back in 1976 and I really have no idea what the current ones are made of. If you want to spend the money you can always update to what is current but I don't think you need to.
