Noise in headstock

Turning a project loud noise in headstock squealing and and part ion faceplate is free wheeling.thiught maybe a belt but belts ok.turn it on under no load no noise put on faceplate squealing and disengaging!! Help anyone! I can't afford New headstock. I'm disabled on fixed income.its a markv no new fancy headstock.

If I put faceplate in back no noise

That description sure seems to indicate a slipping poly-v belt.
