I have a 500, I had asked SS CS about changing the lever for the table with a wheel. I don't think they understood my total question because they said the 500 table was no longer available. Anyways, can I buy a 520 carriage and table assembly and install it on my 500? Are the tube the same size or different? The total 500 to 520 is $1,400. if I'm spending that much, might as well buy a 7

Not sure if this helps

The 520 table and carriage ,,,,,WILL,,,, fit the tubes on your SS, the new carriage,,,, and old carriage ,,,,,are different .
The new table tubes for the trunnion are spread further apart then the old ones .

If I correctly understand your intent, you will find this the simplest approach.

I did this for a while but that 500 is now just a drill press and in that mode it interferes with the table and or workpiece when you need to get near the tubes. I lived with it for a while but took it off and went back to the handle.

It was an interesting idea just not such a good one in drill press mode.

IIRC, moving the 'wheel' etc. to the 'back' side eliminates that interference(barely).

Don't think I understand how that would help, not that I can do it anyway since the machine is rather boxed in and very limited access to the back side.....

Any way, got a picture?

The back side of the table overhangs less than the front. Actually it clears the table substantually and the table travel is again limited only by the way tubes.

YES... That's what I would like. I see on Ebay some good prices for a carriage and table separate.
I don't have any Craigslist listing fro newer SS, just the old 10er's or the 500 as I have already.

Remember if you go for the 510/520 carriage and table you will also need to replace several other things that are not compatible with the 500 equipment you have. You will have to replace your fence system, saw arbors and table saw blade guards at a bare minimum. A look at what is included in the upgrade package should give you an idea of what other things you will need.

As often happens here we strayed away from the original target. The 510/520 discussion was a wayward branch.

All he wanted was a 'wheel' to replace the lever.
