Guessing it will take a couple years in the attic to dry out .

That is just drying it at room temp,,, however being in a attic under constant heat and very low humidity can speed that up a little, when I am done the pieces will be some where around 3 inches square x 3 - 4 ft long .

Hope fully in a couple years it will be good to go .The ash i dried in the attic around the same size took 2 years to reach 6-7%, I do heat my garage in winter so it helps as well .

That appears to be a 'limb'. Internal stresses may be a problem later.

It was actually the trunk of a younger tree , the top looked to have been struck by lightning ,,,,there was some wind damage , I am{{ hoping }} the stress wont be so bad ,,,You are right on the stress part ,,it can be a pain to work around .

The grain is fairly straight with few if any knots so with any luck any checking will be fairly straight.

If I can get a few table legs out of it I will be happy.

By quartering it I hope most the checking ,,cracking,, from the heart will avoided ,,,,or at least limited .

the SS band saw was maxed out , the stock was a full 6 inches .

The saw performed flawlessly with the 3/4 blade.

Once I get it quartered I will post a few more pictures , I can only do so much at a time for a few more weeks do to the shoulder .

Seems like the attic ,, or loft ,,,,in the garage works pretty well , during the summer days it gets pretty warm and in the evening it cools off , I ,,in winter I can put the wood on the rafters above the wood stove I really think over time this removes moisture pretty evenly and the wood doesnt seem to split as bad .

I have some ash 3-4 inches thick in a old shed that has been there for three years or so and it still has a high moisture content , around 12%

3/4 blade?
Wasn't aware the SS band saw would take 3/4.

by golly your right Gene,, I had to go look , it is a 1/2 inch blade .

I must have 3/4 on the brain for some reason.

I have the SS branded 5/8" blade on mine right now. Works really well for straight sawing only.

By the way, I love the aroma of seasoned walnut, when it is cut.
