I think my main table needs to be alligned.

I think my main table needs to be alligned.
I was looking at a sawdust session on the sled and Nick said the distance between the edge of the sled to the blade is one inch. Mine is about 3/4 of an inch. I have also been concerned that the blade is not centered in the table insert. My blade almost touches the left side of the table insert. Is this a table alignment issue? It looks like I am about 1/4 inch out of alignment.
Any words of wisdom? How far should the blade be from the left miter slot? If it needs adjusting what is the best way to do it?
Thanks
Michael

What is the condition/dimension of the stop ring/rubber sleeve that spaces the carriage from the headstock in 'saw position'?

Re: I think my main table needs to be alligned.
The stop ring is new and unmodified. I ordered it from Shopsmith to replace the original because the previous owner of the Shopsmith thought it was packing material and sliced through it. The ring is on the front tube and snug between the headstock and carriage. They are as close together as I can make them. The saw blade location (to the left) is consistent when I setup for sawing. I never paid much attention before since this is the only Shopsmith I ever operated. I only began to suspect something after Nick's video about setting up a new fence on the sliding table. He kept mentioning the 1" space between the blade and the left edge of the table. The space on my Shopsmith is only about 3/4 of an inch.

You ask about three different possible issues. The table may be out of alignment, the sled is further away from the blade than Nick estimates and the blade is not centered in the table cutout. All three might be one issue but a couple questions first.
Which model table saw are we talking about? I assume the 510/520.
Which sled do you have?

3/4"??? are you sure?
Why do you think the blade should be centered in the cutout?
Have you done any research of the forum in an attempt to get the answers there?

What is the length of the sleeve?

Re: I think my main table needs to be alligned.
What is the difference between the 510/520 blade arbor and the 500 saw arbor? Close to 3/4 inch? Would the wrong arbor cause this condition?

He said a rubber sleeve - therefore he has a 505-20.
The arbor lengths vary by about 1/2". We do not know what arbor he is using.

Not true, my 1976 500 had the rubber sleeve, as did the used machines I have from the late 70's and early 80's.JPG wrote:He said a rubber sleeve - therefore he has a 505-20.

Perhaps some picture of things would help us help you.

I bought the sled used and it is not marked but it was advertised as a 520 sled (555535).dusty wrote:You ask about three different possible issues. I don't know if the blade should be centered in the cutout but it seems to be much closer to the left side than other Shopsmiths I've seen. Based on what Nick said in the video about the 1" gap that gap would center the blade.
I confirmed the saw arbors are for the 520.
Bottom line I don't know if I have an alignment issue. The saw works fine as is and is not rubbing but if it is not right I want to fix it. I could keep using it this way with no issues but it just seems off this way and I like things to be precise not just good enough.
I will upload photos later as soon as I figure out how to reduce the resolution so they will work on this site.
