Bandsaw Wheel Bearing Lubrication

Post by commnthings »

In the Maintenance section of the User Manual, on Lubricating the Upper Wheel Bearing, it says to use "cup grease or furnace bearing grease." I can't find either of these in my local Home Depot or hardware stores. Is there a suitable alternative grease for lubricating this bearing? What about white lithium grease?
Thanks,

I use wheel bearing grease and pack the bearing as if it was on a front wheel of my car.

Don't know if this is correct, but this system has worked well for me.

Wheel bearing grease is cup grease(the wheel bearings reside in a cup race).

I googled cup grease and I think my previous statement is questionable. :o

In any event 'cup grease' is used for roller bearings which is the case for the bandsaw wheels.

I do think wheel axle grease is acceptable. I have used lithium grease but cannot say anything about it's durability.

I think the main thing is thicker than oil!

I use sythetic high temperature wheel bearing grease.

If it's good for truck wheel bearings the band saw bearings should be fine.
