Hard Wood Flooring

I got a pretty good deal on some solid oak hardwood flooring. I am using it for segmented bowels. It seems to be harder than other oak boards I have used. Is there any difference in the type of oak wood's they make flooring out of as opposed to other oak boards used in woodworking. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Larry

From what I have been able to find over the years there are several types of oak, most flooring is a mix of red oak and white oak, I have seen red oak from the woods that was very hard.

I have a few pieces of air dried white oak in the garage that the grain is straight as a arrow and easy to work with a chisel .

A lot depends on the type and climate , age of the wood ,moisture content,,if it was kiln dried or air dried along with a few other variables .

Hickory is the same way, several types and growing environments.
