Bandsaw Miter Slot

Post by bgam65 »

Why isn't there a miter slot on the left side of the bandsaw table?
This would give you more stability and room for your work.

I don't know but if you feel that one would be beneficial - PUT ONE THERE. Shopsmith sells the extrusion.

Please explain what you mean when you say that having another miter track would provide greater stability.

Are you using the main table etc. to support long work pieces?

It would be difficult to add a miter slot to either the cast iron or aluminum tables. I'm not sure anothe miter slot would have that much benefit. You can build your own table to replace the existing one which allows you to also make a larger table and add all the slots you want. I replaced the one on my main band saw years ago. I prefer the melamine surface, larger table and slots for facilitating jig set up. It comes with price though. It adds a significant amount of weight to the bandsaw. I also use the tubes and a 510 fence to stabilize the table. Without it the table was much less stable due to the increased size and weight.
