Mixing hobbies - woodworking and 3D printing
My daughter grabs any scrap piece of plywood I have so she can make string art. She asked me todag to drill a hole in one of them so she could hang it. But I thought I could do better than that. Since I don't have a key hole slot router bit (or a router) I decided I could 3D print an insert. I already had white loaded in the printer so jhst used that. It perfectly fits a 1" hole from a Forstner bit with a very tight friction fit. Although there are screw holes to screw it in place, they're really not needed. Also, you can't see it in the pics, but the inside has a taper to it. So, like a French Cleat, it will pull the board against the wall. So I don't have to fiddle with adjusting the screw "just right."

what kind of 3D printer do you have? What material did you use?

That's pretty cool!
I just broke out a keyhole router bit that I had bought from Shopsmith 10 years agod. It worked great, but your idea is all the cooler!

I currently have 4 printers, but I'm about to get rid of 2 of them. The two I'm going to keep are both Wanhao Duplicator i3 (aka Monoprice Maker Select). I've mostly been printing drone parts out of TPU the last couple years for a little side income. This insert was printed in PLA. First test cut on my wedgie sled with a 3D printed wedge for 16 segments. Came out perfect!

About a dollar in raw material cost. But that's only one part of the cost equation. This wedge took about an hour and a half to print. If I sold them, I'd price them at $5 per wedge.JPG wrote:>>>>> 11.25° <<<<< ?
