Advice and experience requested: I have a dust collector and a shop vac. For years, I have used the DC with the standing tools, and the shop vac with the power-hand tools (sanders, router, etc). I frequently have the DC running with the hose near the bench work to reduce dust, so both are running at the same time. Makes a lot of noise, and uses a lot of electricity.
I was considering using the DC for the hand tools instead, but wonder about a DC with a 4" intake reduced to the 1" hand tool port. Any experience or advice with this issue?
Perhaps a Y in the DC hose, with a 1" branch to the tool, and a 2" hose on the bench top for extra collection, and to avoid choking flow to the DC? Would be a whole lot quieter, and perhaps more efficient?

Stick the open end of the 1" hose into the open end of the 4" hose. Make sure there is sufficient overlap.
I think that might work.

Re: Vacuum or dust collector for power hand tools?
I have done this with my 1" hose and a 2 1/2 inch shop vac hose. It worked (for the most part.)Stick the open end of the 1" hose into the open end of the 4" hose. Make sure there is sufficient overlap.
I think that might work.
I eventually made some bushings with the lathe, Much better solution. (for me)
