Advice and experience requested: I have a dust collector and a shop vac. For years, I have used the DC with the standing tools, and the shop vac with the power-hand tools (sanders, router, etc). I frequently have the DC running with the hose near the bench work to reduce dust, so both are running at the same time. Makes a lot of noise, and uses a lot of electricity.

I was considering using the DC for the hand tools instead, but wonder about a DC with a 4" intake reduced to the 1" hand tool port. Any experience or advice with this issue?

Perhaps a Y in the DC hose, with a 1" branch to the tool, and a 2" hose on the bench top for extra collection, and to avoid choking flow to the DC? Would be a whole lot quieter, and perhaps more efficient?

Stick the open end of the 1" hose into the open end of the 4" hose. Make sure there is sufficient overlap.

I have done this with my 1" hose and a 2 1/2 inch shop vac hose. It worked (for the most part.)

I eventually made some bushings with the lathe, Much better solution. (for me)
