Is there a safe non-obtrusive way or type of extension cord to run under a rug

The safest way is to use a cover like this one.

Extension cords under rugs are the main reason that arc-fault circuit interruptors (AFCI's) are now required for new construction.

I can think of no better way to burn a house down than to put an extension cord under a carpet.
If nothing else pull baseboard and run the wire around the room. Or hire an electrician and run the wires over head through the walls.
If you insist on running the wire under the carpet, do yourself a favor. Inventory all you possessions taking pictures of everything. You will need that when the insurance company asks for it after the fire.

I always heard it wasn't safe that is why I asked if there was a safe way. This weekend my recliner broke, the world is coming to an end, and my better half decided we will be getting a reclining sofa and love seat with one of them being electric.mmwhere she is placing makes plugging in a stretch.mmslab house makes putting outlet in floor more of a cost then I am willing to shell out so I will most probably go with the short covered extension as shown in answer above. Thx

Just a idea ,,run it under the floor and back up next to a wall if you have to ,,,then attach a flat box to the wall , you should be able to find the flat stuff at any hardware store like lowes or menards .,,,,, its called raceway ,,,
https://www.homedepot.com/p/500-Series- ... PwodoCUP6w
they sell boxes for it with plugs and even plug strips if I recall .

You have a tough situation so your best option would be a cord cover like the ones in the picture from Gene. Leave it over the carpet so it is easy to see it's condition. The cord cover should help keep it in place while reducing the trip hazard. I am a retired Firefighter and putting a power cord under a carpet is a fire waiting to happen.
