The next project involves a zebrawood and ebony pedestal to hold a decorative sink bowl. I am going to turn the pedestal in three sections and then join them. The top bowl will be a segmented piece and the main column will be laminated up 8/4 zebrawood in either linear fashion or also segmented. The base will be a ring of ebony.

Hmmmmm. Moma sketches the shape and thee figgers out how to make it?

I assume the 'blocks' drawn on the top piece sketch will be triangles?

Yes. Doing the full scale drawing is the only way I can make it work for me.

Paul,
I’m a bit curious to the glue you will be using, specifically the ebony. I’ve only been able to get an epoxy to hold together ebony in larger pieces especial with seam edges where the grain is not flowing the same way. I built a lazy Susan for a friend’s daughter using a wagon wheel / spoke design where grains were about 45 degrees different for each section.
It has been setting the their garage for a while now waiting for me to repair it I cut the pieces on purpose as a design element which did not show as well as I anticipated
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I use titebond 3 but epoxy works also. Just wipe the joints with acetone right before you do the glue up. That goes for all the really dense or oily woods.

So I hit a slight snag in slicing the zebra wood which is laminated to a piece of poplar. When I got the new table saw it required me throwing out all my old sleds. I spent the last day building a new sled and managed to get it done just in time to leave town for Albuquerque. Now I can get down to making rings this weekend.

Finally got some shop time and moving forward. I sliced up the Zebrawood and the rings are now finished. I will sand them flat tomorrow.

Managed to get out in the shop for a few hours and got the discs sanded and then glued up. Hopefully get to turning it tomorrow.

Yesterday was a pretty productive day on the lathe. As well as the rattle I also turned the outside of the bowl the sink will sit on. The inside will be easy to rough out as it will be covered by the bowl. There will be an ebony plate on the bottom of the bowl and then the pedestal which will need to be hollow to allow for the drain.
