IMO you cannot repair rotten wood. Solution to a fix always takes effort. First - figure out why the rot has happened. (The cause)
Find what species of rot it is. Yes, there are many species of fungi that rot wood.

When we were having a house built in TX. I found several 2X4s that contained white pocket rot. Insisted these studs be removed prior to closing the walls. Sometimes sawmills (manufactures) will overlook defects in wood and sell the bad stuff along with the good.

Once you find the cause of the rot, then the rot needs replaced.
