Power Station Maintenance

I just purchased my first power station (wish it was a crafters station, but those are rare) and its in decent shape from what I can tell, but I'm trying to figure out the Maintenance part prior to use and do not have a manual. Does anyone know what needs to be lubricated prior to putting it to work. I currently am just planning on cleaning it up well but unsure what needs oil, if the motor is sealed or if it needs oil, or if I need to wax any moving parts. Any help would be nice.

Check the motor. If it has oil cups, oil it. Other than that there is nothing else that needs to be lubricated.

The Crafters Station is a Power Station with a reversible motor (mechanism) and nothing more. Well, that is not exactly true. The Crafters Station has a carriage for the Main Table feature but you could easily make that. The Main Table height adjustment is absolutel manual; you lift it up and down and lock it where you want it. No mechanical assist.

I've had mine since around 1993. According to the manual, 1) wax the carriage holes and carriage glide surface. 2) Check the set screws of the upper and lower pulleys to make sure they are tight. 3) The bearings are permanently lubed.

So not a lot of maintenance needed. Mine usually is for the band saw or strip sander. Currently, it has been doing band saw duty.

Beave, check out the posts at the link below for my experience with motor lubrication. The manual does say that everything is permanently lubricated, but JPG and I found that this is not accurate with respect to our motor bearings.

A motor with bronze sleeve bearings and a plastic plugged oil hole is NOT IMHO 'permanently lubricated'.

Well all cleaned up and tested. Had to replace one bolt, but overall I'm satisfied.

The reason the crafters station would have been nice is for the table so I could run the disc sander. But I might be able to do that with an extension table I guess.

I do need to check the motor for lubrication still per that thread, but I'll get to it tomorrow.

I'll have to check the motors on my Power Stations. I probably have the same manual as Dan since my Power Stations are an 89 and a 92. Thanks for the info guys.

Where should I look for the "oil cups"?

You may not have oil cups. I just this week received a new Power Station motor from Shopsmith and it does not have oik cups. The new one was built by USMotors. The others that I have are Emerson (I think). I'll get out to the shop after day break and verify.

Yes, the others are Emerson motors and they do have oil cups.

BUT

I checked the new motor again and it does not have oil cups. However, the label contains a lubrication time table.

I am confused. I don't know how to do that unless I have to dismantle the motor. Everyday brings at least one new challenge for the old guy.
