Jointer

Post by BobCoates1953 »

I recently picked up a second 10er that I think is 1950 model. It came with a jointer which I have no use for and wondered what I should ask as price. I am in Phila, pa area. Don't know how I would ship it.
Thanks
Bob

Is it a complete set up? The 10ER jointer head rest, the jointer hinge plate and the motor pulley adapter?

Pictures will help to see what you have.

What you have is an early MK V jointer and not the original 4E jointer that was made for the 10ER. However, they are almost identical except for the way they mount.

Most importantly you have a set of the SS power mount adapters to allow MK V SPT to be used on the 10ER. I wonder if you also have the head stock pulley. See the attached picture. If so you have a complete set and it is extremely rare and is worth more than the jointer.

Also attached is the instructions for the power mount adapters.

It is exactly like your picture.

Then you have a very rare kit. The one in my picture I bought a few years ago on eBay and it was the only complete set I had seen after many many years of checking eBay daily. Yours is the third set I have seen since I got mine.

Your jointer is an early MK 5 jointer. It has the holes for the MK 5 mounting tubes. Hence the need for the power adapters to use it on the 10ER. However, if you look at your first picture the out feed casting has two holes in it. They are just above the MK 5 mounting tubes. Those are left overs from the 4E mounting system. Later MK 5/V jointers do not have those holes.

The first picture shows a 4E jointer. Notice the same two holes. It does not have the tube loles in the casting. Those holes are used to bolt the jointer to the head rest hinge plate shown in the second picture.

The third picture shows the motor pulley kit needed to drive the 4E jointer. That kit is even rarer than the power mount kit. The one I have is the only complete kit I have ever seen.

It seems amazing there are only 3 known sets of the Power mount adapter kit.
Seems they advertised it enough. Maybe buyers were moving on to the Mark 5 and not needing that set.
I want a set!. Wishful thinking I think.

There are certainly more languishing in sheds and barns. I only said that I have only seen 3 complete kits for sale. You occasionally see a head stock pulley or one of the adapters but never a complete kit.

If you want one then PM BobCoates1953. He said he does not want the jointer so he has no need for the power adapter kit.

Finding that more hidden goodies. I have a box that has those adapters, plus the one on the jointer. Neither myself or my son are interested in the jointer.
Thanks for all the information.
Mine has been in the family since new, and this second one I acquired for my son.
