Poll: Have you taken advantage of "Heads Up-Bargain" Posts?

Post by br549 »

Just curious as to how often someone has been able to take advantage of the "Heads Up - Bargain Available" posts that appear here. I have posted several times for bargains which I found but which didn't need, and it would be nice to know if those bargains found homes with fellow Forum members. Poll is set up to run for 30 days.

It is very, very seldom that a "Heads Up-Bargain" is within driving distance. I have, however, seen several that if they had been close - they would be mine.

I consider the benefit of this thread is to make us all aware of selling activity taking place and the prices asked.

Per the initial intent it places all in one place that can be ignored if desired. That is an improvement from what took place previously(heads up all over the place).

I have found some in Dallas, and believe it or not Denver, Colorado that I have acquired machines, accessories, and parts from.

My daughter and son-in-law in Colorado Springs have picked up things I acquired in the Denver area and have collaborated with a purchase I made from another forum member there.

If you know people, and have friends in the forums here you can sometimes find someone who can help out. Local Pick-up doesn't have to mean you right now. You can sometimes buy it now and go get it from your buddy in the spring.

I had a belt sander I bought in New Orleans and the fellow was going to Amarillo to visit his daughter in college in 2 weeks, and we met for coffee on his way through Lubbock.

I have paid with PayPal even mailed Bank Cashiers Checks where needed.

You just have to get to know the seller and see if something makes sense.

I just took Everett's advice and added that I would be willing to pick up an item I posted if anyone was interested. After checking on the item further it's pretty close to my house.
As mentioned earlier, maybe the offer to help out a forum member with local pickup and shipping might help. I see items posted on here that I would like to have but the drive thing kind of negates it and most items are pretty large and heavy.

I agree that local pickup does not necessarily mean the purchaser. I could see picking up something for someone or even relaying a purchase if the distance was reasonable. The question is getting people to agree before making the purchase and be willing to wait for receipt.
