Control sheave bearing replacement

Post by Alane0709 »

So my control sheave bearing locked up and doesnt appear to have damaged anything. Can i replace just the bearing and button? Or do i have to replace the assembly?

You can replace it but is a bit tricky. There is a guy on E Bay that replaces the bearing for a fee. You will have to go to E Bay and search for Shopsmith control sheave repair.

I got it all apart and the bearing out but i have read that it is supposed to be staked in. It certainly wont staked in. It was easy to get apart.

The staking dents are very small.

Here are two threads full of ideas. My approach with JB Weld is still holding up, and I have been using the advice of keeping the bearing well lubed by oiling it in the drill press position. If I seen redleg's method before I repaired mine, I would have tried that first.

IIRC Bandsaw Tire Warehouse on ebay offered the service but it has been awhile since I looked into it.

Jacob Anderson sells a replacement bearing and has a video on how to do it your self if you buy the bearing from him.
