Quill issues, what am I doing wrong?

I'm reassembling a Shopsmith I bought completely un-assembled in a box. I can't get the quill to work correctly.
Did I assemble it correctly?
First picture is of the parts opened up to show orientation.
Second picture is of the parts when everything is tightened up.
Third picture is of the spherical washer I think goes in the head unit.

The washer is on the wrong side.

Which way does the domed side face? Does the dome side face the spring housing or the other way?

The picture(Thunderbirdbat) is correct. Dome towards sleeve, flat against headstock rib. Brenda would not mislead thee.

Ok, all is well with the quill. The list of issues slowly grinds downward thanks to all the fine members here!
