The dog ate the mouse bait

Post by STB »

I left the shop door open and the dog found the mouse bait. She carried the bait to the middle of the driveway and ate all but one bait set. Thankfully it didn't seem to hurt her. So this is what I come up with for a dog proof bait station. The first picture shows what the dog found.

Mouse and rat poisons won't harm dogs or cats.
The most common rodenticides cause one of three things: internal bleeding, brain swelling, or hypercalcemia (high calcium level, which can lead to things like kidney failure). Keep mouse and rat poisons well out of reach of pets.

They WON'T harm dogs or cats??? a small bite, no, a bait trap or two? depending on the size of the animal it will most certainly not end well. Rat poisons have a delayed effect, taking several days to show up. Vitamin K helps. Call your vet now!

One of ours got into the green stuff. Effects were seen within a couple hours. Rushed her to the vet where massive doses of K were injected. Wasn't working. Went home and got her litter mate and the vet did a direct transfusion from him to her. Brought her out of it, finally.

Mouse and rat poisons won't harm dogs or cats

That was the question as I googled it,I merely copied and pasted it all .
We lost cat years ago over decon ,mice wold carry it across the garage to the cat food bowl , drop it and drink the cats water, just like antifreeze it will kill ! there are poison centers just about everywhere , when you look up the MSDS on the green stuff it says it isn't harmful to cats and dogs . not a good way to go IMO.

That's a good link, but you left out a rather important part when you copied & pasted: that statement was under the heading of "Common Misconceptions"!
