Good Evening (first post)

I recently purchased my first (and 2nd) Mark V Shopsmith. My question is regarding the planer.

I was looking to mount it on a flip top cabinet with my miter saw when I found that there is no brackets to allow me to do this. I was wondering if someone has developed something to accomplish this. Otherwise I am looking at welding some tabs or building some sort of bracket for this.

There are two threaded holes in the bottom(underside) of the planer that can be used to secure the planer to the 'flip' thingie.

These two holes are used for securing the planer in both the SS mount and stand mount setups.

I do not understand how you intend to use the planer this way???

I’m curious, what are you going to power the planer with? When mounting on a stand, people will usually hang an induction motor beneath the stand, and use a belt drive. It seems like that could be a pretty good challenge on a flip-top stand, with a miter saw on the other side!

I apologize should have been more specific. It is the stand alone thickness planer (operates on 120 v), I believe the model is VO3537AA80 (blurry tag). Underneath I could not find anyway to bolt the planer down like the Dewalt 735 etc.

I was hoping someone has done this previously and could suggest a good way to do this.

How did it bolt to the original stand?
Could it not bolt to your stand the same way.

That’s the model number of the feed motor. Shopsmith planers all have a separate drive for the feed rollers — either a variable-speed DC motor (with an AC-input drive) like yours, or a hand crank.

The cutterhead is powered separately. On Mark V mount units, the cutters are normally powered by the headstock. However, they can also be converted to stand-alone operation by mounting them on a powered stand, either home made or purchased from Shopsmith. Given that you are contemplating mounting it on a flip-top stand, I suspect that this is the type of planer that you have.

Below is a picture of a Shopsmith Pro Planer, which was shipped from the factory already set up for stand-alone operation. It has a 1-3/4 hp cutterhead motor, mounted on the understand of the stand.

Gentleman I bought it from had it on a homemade stand, I will take a better look at it when I get home and will speak to the seller about it.

It's most likely driven by the headstock and I will now have to rethink how to mount on the cabinet. Space is at a premium in my garage and need to always think about space requirements.

Using the flip mount should work ok for storage!

Thanks that simple solution will save me hours of frustration and tinkering. Confirmed with the seller that driven by the headstock and where the pieces to attach are in the stuff he gave me.

I only see two potential problems.

Table/bed is quite long. Miter saw MAY get in way of accessing planer mounting bolts.
