Powerpro rattle -- quill issue?

Hello, a few years back I installed the PowerPro. When I did so I was not able to get it as quiet as in the videos. I should have paid better attention.
Recently I decided the wedge locks needed some attention and while I was at it I revisited the high-speed rattle. After much time spent with belt tensions and eccentric bushing adjustment I decided to pull the quill. The rattle was gone.
Investigating the quill, the issue appears to be too much play between the rear (smaller) bearing and the quill body. Wiggling the spline shaft visibly moves the entire bearing, including the outer race. No such play in the larger front bearing. My digital caliper puts the rear bearing (specified to be 35mm) at 34.98mm
I could try a new bearing but I fear the issue is the bore of the quill itself. Sadly, I am very much past warranty.
Was there a known bad batch of quill bodies? Is there a good way to solidly seat the bearing despite this issue? Or, am I likely whistling up the wrong tree?
