Vacuum

Re: Vacuum
I do and it works quite well. I don't vacuum but blow with the hose attached to the exhaust port. It's an ancient 1.1 HP Genie. I also use it to blow off any sawdust after whenever I use the SS as well as clean the bandsaw.

Re: Vacuum
I use the vacuum combined with compressed air to blow dust and dirt loose and try to suck it up in the vacuum instead of letting migrate to other places. A long stem blowgun on the compressor is effective at getting stuff loose from the tight places but without the vacuum sucking up as much as possible it's just spreading around. Soft plastic brushes are very useful too. Some time back I had a vacuum attachment meant for cleaning keyboards that had a long narrow that could get in some pretty tight spaces too, need to find one of those again and see how well it works on sawdust.
Going a little off topic here, I've been told there's nothing wrong with the whining sound you hear when a vacuum is clogged or air flow is reduced through a crevice tool or other narrow aperture. It's the result of the impellor speeding up because the reduced air intake increases the efficiency of the impellor since it has to move less air. Not sure I described that correctly. Never confirmed that either, maybe someone knows something about this subject.
