I prefer this table for Mark V ages. It is near the bottom of the web page and breaks out the 510 serial numbers:

OR it could have been built Nov 18, 1989. It would help to know what it looks like.

Date Of Manufacture???

Post by JPG »

Clues:

Red Safety Switch Or Plain Toggle Switch? = Post 1991 / Pre 1991

Made By Shopsmith Inc Or Magna Engineering = Post 1972 / Pre 1967

Green/silver Paint = Pre 1960

Brown/gold Paint = 1960 - 1963

Grey/smooth Paint = 1963 - 1967 (1972 - 1984)???

Grey/textured Paint (sn 190000 Up) = 1984 - 1987

Units After Nov 1987 Are Date Codes, Not Sn

Sn 111889 Could Be: Dec, 1981 Or Nov 18, 1989

In Either Case It Should Be Of Shopsmith, Inc. Lineage.

The Paint Texture Becomes The Determining Detail. Smooth=1981/textured=1989 <<<<<<<<<<:) :) :)

The Sn/date Code Does **not** Indicate Model (500/505/510/520) As The Differences Are Table/fence Systems Which Are Upgradable From Any Previous "model".

DO NOT UNDERSTAND "555510" MODEL NUMBER!

I HOPE THIS IS HELPFUL!!!!!!!!(AND ACCURATE)!

The different Mark V models do have model numbers. Check this page out: http://www.shopsmith.com/markvsite/purchaseNB.htm
None of them are 555510 though.:(

Model #

Post by JPG »

Tim's link shows 3 different model #. They are all 3 identical EXCEPT for the table/fence system. I don't think the "model #" appears on them, it is used for ordering purposes.
