I bought an old Shopsmith Mark V with no motor. I ordered a new motor from Shopsmith. Are there any tips on installing the motor?

Congratulations and welcome! As I recall Shopsmith sells the motor by itself or as an assembly including sheaves, spring, etc. If you bought the assembly, or if you have all of the parts off the old one and they are compatible, installing is fairly simple. There is some variation in how the unit is wired over the years, but the wiring is simple. If you can post a couple of pictures of the inside of your headstock we can tell you what you have and any other parts you may want or need. Do you know if your Mark V is complete other than the motor, and/or do you have the other parts on order?

Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum.
If you ordered the motor from the service parts and it includes, as listed, only reference numbers 121 through 124 than depending on the age of your Mark V some of your parts, if you have them, reference numbers 114 through 120 may or may not be compatible. Most notably the retaining ring (114) and washer (115) are specific to different motors. Older motors used different spring retaining parts. If you are also missing the parts reference numbers 114 through 120 wait to receive the motor to see if they are included and if not you will need those part too. If needed, installing parts 114 through 120 on the motor shaft requires compressing the spring to get the retainer on. That and other tips to be helpful in installing the motor can be given here should the need arise.

Newbie here, but I have a Mark5 head complete and currently runs fine in my new shop - somewhat dusty. I'm currently using this old head while I wait for the new Pro engine to be shipped from SS. This old head is ready to slide right on the way tubes. Are you still in need of a replacement? If so, please private message me. Captain Miles
