HELP!!! Refurb Mark V Greenie

Hi all,
I just got my hands on an old Mark V Greenie and I just started my teardown to clean, rebuild and get it back up and running. BUT I need some help with finding some parts! This is the first time I have done this.
I have one question and some help finding a couple parts.
First, might sound dumb, but when I got the shop smith, it has a gilmer drive, but was using a poly v belt. Can I replace it with the same, or should I get a gilmer belt?
Second,
Can anyone help me with finding the following:
Bearings for quill
Retaining Loop
and where to buy them
Thank you in advance for all the help!

If it is a 'greenie" it is a Mark 5.
Poly-v belt on a Gilmer drive - ain't possible! It likely has been converted. If not pictures are needed. Determining what you have is critical.
5/8" x 35mm x 11mm quill bearing.
SS, but only comes with a control sheave.

Welcome to the forum! Note that if it has been converted to Poly-V then the bearing size may or may not be as stated. There are at least three possible variants in the quill bearings. In this case you'd need to determine which version quill you have. The generic (-ish) PN for the metric bearing with 5/8 ID is 6202-10-ZZ (shielded) or 6202-10-RS (sealed). The "-10" differentiates it from standard 6202 dimensions, so don't leave it out. This part is also available from Shopsmith under their own PN.
If you don't need the Button or Button bearing, I believe Shopsmith does sell the Retaining Loop by itself, 504187. There is some uncertainty here because the exploded parts diagram and parts list are not in agreement:
https://www.shopsmith.com/service/headstock/index.htm Failure of this part would usually indicate a failed button bearing or other problems.

I am not aware of any other bearings used in a Mark 5 quill. The quill IS different on the splines.
A failing loop can be caused by insufficient lubrication of both movable sheaves or too aggressively adjusting the speed upward.
The purpose of the loop is NOT to pull the control sheave, but to prevent rotation of the center race of the button bearing.
If the floating sheave is slow to respond(lack of slippery), it will cause the control sheave to also be slow to respond.

I had the same thought as JPG, who has a lifetime more experience than me on these things. But if someone, somehow, put a poly-v belt on your gilmer drive Mark 5, they may have also only partially converted two shafts, meaning they may have changed only one end of what the belt rides on. It is hard to imagine anyone doing either action when replacing that belt, but the only way for us to know for sure what you have, and to help you with this, is to have photos of both shafts that the belt rides on. Please post some photos. Photos always help ensure we are all “seeing” the same thing.
Adding photos is often a real challenge in this forum, but at the top of the “Community” forum topic there is a post on how to add photos, it is very helpful. Two things that are a challenge, and which are not answered in the beginning of that topic, are a limitation on photo file size and, on iPhones, the orientation of the photo after uploading it (they often end up sideways or upside down). Be sure to read to the end of that topic for suggestions for how to overcome those problems, if you run into them.
And welcome to the forum. I’m sure you will find it as helpful as I have.

Agree. My thinking was in terms of Mark5/V quills. Including two-bearing quills. 'Cuz I'm thinking if someone changed to Poly-V one possible reason is to 'upgrade' to a two-bearing quill. If I change every part inside my Mark5 headstock, it will still be a Mark 5 in my heart (and on the label).

I should have narrowed my comment to "greenie". They were originally gilmer drive. "Early goldies" were also.
That being so, a two bearing quill(from SS) will not fit into a gilmer drive sleeve.
I have been assuming the OP is confused(he has me confused) regarding WHAT he has. He may well have a poly-v conversion installed. In that case he no longer has gilmer stuff.(idler sheave, drive sleeve, quill)
Then there is third party(PO) alterations.

NewbieMarkV,
Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. Please don't feel overwhelmed already. We really can help it is just that we need to see what you have to provide the correct information. Pictures as has been already recommended will be a great help to us to know what, if any, upgrades or changes have been made to your Mark 5 "Greenie" over the years. Include pictures of the drive sleeve, the idler pulley assembly (front and back) and the entire quill after removing it from the headstock. Upgrades are a common occurrence and there are many variables that could have been changed on your Shopsmith. Something to remember about the Mark 5 is that all changes/upgrades have been backward engineered so earlier tools can have these changes added to them. I won't say it cannot be done since I have never tried it but using a poly V belt on a Gilmer drive Mark 5 wouldn't work very well if at all.
For your reference, below is a clutch type Gilmer Drive Sleeve Assembly. The arrow indicates the set screw in the collar used on all clutched Gilmer Drive Sleeves. Those having a set screw in the gear teeth are the non-clutched Gilmer Drive Sleeve Assemblies first used in the Mark 5 in 1954.

THANK YOU ALL for your replies. After I tore it down I def felt a little overwhelmed. The old owner did not say anything about making modifications, maybe he replaced the belt and thought it was the right one, but it def was not a gilmer belt. n Still looking for help finding the bearings for the Gilmer drive sleeve and the single quill.
Here are 2 pics, first is the part I need to get the gilmer belt for, anyone have a good link for a good priced one?
Second is the clip I was looking to replace. I think, again the older owner, prob did some adjustments wrong and bent it. I was able to bend it into position, then heated it up and quickly cooled it. Seems to be staying in the right shape, everything I tried before heating didn't work.
Thank you again for ALL the help and I cannot wait to hear about your replies.
