How wide is the piece you are crosscutting?
That's what I would think

The piece is ca. 5". It's just a piece of 1-by scrap I'm using for test cuts

  • Clamping makes no difference.
  • Not flipping makes no difference.
  • One strip of cellophane tape took out the slop in the slot but makes no difference.
All locks are locked. There's a little bit of blade runout to this side but my expectation is that it would just make the kerf a little wider - after all they make (or made?) wobble-blade dado cutters. But maybe not? This is that same thin-kerf combo blade that was giving me grief with rip cuts. Maybe it's flexy enough that it cut true(er) at the beginning of the cut but the runout manifests at the end? I dunno. Hopefully Santa will put a blade and/or arbor in my stocking ;)
Hmmm...

Rather then waste any more time with that blade just head off to one of the big box stores and spend $20 on a new blade. I normally don't buy cheap blades but in this case there are too many unknowns and the blade has a history.......... so get a cheap blade and see what happens.

I don't think this helps-but someone with cross compatibility of arbors between models will know. I'm nearby you HopefulSSr and have
a number of arbors that came with my tool- attached to some questionable blades I never used. My tool is a 520 model.

I believe the one on right is 555608 5/8" Arbor for models 520, 510 and 505
The one in the middle I think is a 555130 1 1/4" Arbor for Shopsmith blades for models 520, 510 and 505

The one the left - I don't really know !
But it is 5/8" .

Let me know if one of these can help you-

A word of caution. There are two different 510/520 5/8" saw arbors, the one on the right is for sure the later/current one. There are also some non-OEM ones that look like the early version. This thread has great detail on arbors of all kinds: viewtopic.php?p=260771#p260771 (See the PDF) The most reliable way to distinguish 500 (or pre-500) arbors if unsure is to measure. My best guess is that the arbor on the left is the early 510 5/8" or non-OEM 510/520. One could probably get away with this on a Greenie for a test, but IIUC it wouldn't be compatible with the saw guard.
