Use our Power Stand Kits to power your Shopsmith Bandsaw, Jointer or Belt Sander"
Ugh. Time to magnify my screen another notch. I don't know what I thought that said before but it didn't register as "Jointer".
The pulley sizes are in the Power Stand manual. As I remember regardless of which stand you buy the manual is the same. The only difference is the pulley sizes. The chart in each manual is the same. It contains the sizes for all the SPTs.
Never seen a manual, my power stand came pre-attached to an SS bandsaw. So it leaves me wondering what speed a joiner runs on a power stand.
OK, I may have misspoke. The power stands come with a mounting base. There is a speed chart in the mounting base instructions with all the speeds and pulleys for the SPTs on a Power Stand. I don't have access to my Power Stand manual but I guess the Mounting Base manual came with the Power Stand. The pulley chart tor the Jointer says 4.5" tool pulley and 2" motor pulley. Using an online pulley calculator says that is 3881 RPM. The Mounting Base chart says 3900 RPM.

The SS speed chart for the MK 5/V lists four speeds. Letters O, P, R and S. 4480 to 6080 RPM. The Power Station top speed is 3850 RPM, hence the note about Jointer speed in the manual.

With a 1.5" motor pulley and a 4.5" tool pulley the Jointer would run at 5175 RPM on the power stand. Right in the middle of the speeds on the MK 5/V. Not sure why the Power Stand came with a 2" pulley. I think if I was using a Jointer on a Power Stand I would use a 1.5" motor pulley.

A little more info. I got my Power Stand manual. There is a pulley chart in it. There is also a manual for the pulley guard. It too has the pulley chart. The charts are all the same with one exception. The Mounting Base manual chart list info for the 20" scroll saw. The other two manuals do not.

I found this post by Dusty, from April 2017, that included jpgs of the four page pulley manual that I believe came with the Power Station.

I don't know that were ever "pulley kits" but this document gives you the Shopsmith part numbers of the items needed to equip a power stand for a specific SPT.

That is pretty much the same one I have but has the Scroll saw info. Mine is dated Feb 2001. The one in your post is 12/88.

FWIW, my mounting base, power stand and pulley kit manual charts do have part numbers for pulley kits for all but the scroll saw. They are all dated 2000 or 2001.

It was the Pulley Guard manual that I'd seen before. There's a link on the Product Manuals page:

Thank you guys, I’m glad to have this manual. Ed, I missed it at that location because when I looked I was looking specifically for the Power Stand manual, which they did not have. It is good to have a pdf!

Marc,
Nice acquisition! One added benefit is that you now have the feather guard upgrade!

I've read with interest the notes regarding powering the jointer on a power station. Being over 70 years old with some back issues, I purchased a used power station from e-bay so I could mount my jointer permanently and have no need to lift it anymore.

I modified the power station by changing the 2 1/2 inch diameter motor pulley to a 4 inch diameter pulley. I also cut two of the motor mount bolts so I could move the motor closer to the base so the belt would reach.

With this change, I get 6000 RPM at speed lever setting of 7.5, and the jointer works well.

I've attached some pictures.

edma194 wrote: Sun Nov 21, 2021 12:35 pm You should be fine with the belt sander and jigsaw. The bandsaw might bog down if you were cutting thick enough and hard enough wood. Even with a PowerPro cutting through 5" maple recently was tough. Was a 1/8" blade though, a bigger blade with bigger teeth may have done better.
Yes, definitely try a wider blade for resawing 5" wood. I have a 1/2" blade on my bandsaw, and recently have been resawing quite a bit of 6" Oak, Cherry, and Walnut. It handles it well even with my old 1983 Shopsmith motor.
