Jessem MAST-R-FENCE II micro adjust news

Post by reible »

Well news to me anyway.

I have an old shopsmith overhead router with the lower table that accepts a router as well. One of my updates was the Jessem fence. Then Jessem came out with newer hardware and added the possibility of a micro adjuster. But it didn't fit the old fence, the one I have.

Now I see they have an add-on for the old fence so the micro adjuster can be used on it. The link below may not be the best price but it will let you see the item:

https://www.amazon.com/JESSEM-ADJUSTER- ... D48B&psc=1

The adjuster is here:

I'm on the fence about adding this to my setup............ OK yea I did that. Wasn't on my shopping list for this year but might be something that I can fit in.

I have a similar setup and the same fence. I like this, but I too am 'on the fence' about getting it. I don't see many reviews. Two out of the four reviews on Amazon for the adjuster, the user said they had one on each end of the fence. They didn't really say why. I already thought it was a bit high, but if it ends up being 2X... Only thing I can think of is maybe they weren't satisfied with the adjustment range which would be halved if measured at the cutter with only one adjuster. I haven't found a spec for adjustment range.

Note - The pictures on Woodcraft (no reviews!) helped me to understand, this thing is a bit bigger than I originally thought. https://www.woodcraft.com/products/micr ... nce-jessem

Poor man's alternative - A dial indicator gives great accuracy and resolution in setting the fence, especially if you zero it first like you would the standard scales. I find the fence moves a couple thou when I tighten it down, but in repeatable fashion so you can offset for it. I've used the SS alignment version with a spacer for the fence, a better setup would be a dedicated bracket and mount the indicator behind the fence as close to directly behind the cutter as possible.

I have a rigged system from maybe Rockler but it doesn't work well since it has wasn't made for this fence and I never did get a really good way of attaching it. Magnets only have so much use and the screw hysteresis and some flex is a real pain to deal with.

Yes expensive but at least it is made for the fence. I don't think I would need two of them, I get by with just one now so........

I think I have talked my self into getting one since I have a free shipping deal from Woodcraft for the adapter. The adjuster will be cheaper else where.

No plans to get this mount in the near term, winter time shop projects are almost non existent. But the free shipping expires soon so will take advantage of that for the adapter anyway.
