Power cord inside headstock

I am replacing the quill feed mechanism and noticed that the power line was running over the feed assembly which seems to put some stress on the line. Is this the normal path for the line or can it be below the quill feed?

Thanks

The power lines to and from the switch should run clear of all moving parts to prevent insulation chaffing and a potential short. The power cord wiring and motor wiring normally run close together. It does not normally go over the quill feed. Also run clear of the speed control, which has a wide range of motion, and the headstock lock parts.

It looks like your hot wire pulled off the switch. IIWM I'd inspect those wires carefully before re-installing, I think I see marks on the white wire by the quill lock.

FYI, here's how mine look. I use a large pipe cleaner and electrical tape to keep all of the wires grouped together.

Thanks for your comments. Found a picture on YouTube that helps too. Quite a journey ... these Shopsmiths. I will inspect the wires as suggested.

The wires should run in the general path br549 shows above. Note the wires are also kept away from the threaded rod of the Way Tube Locks. Check the path of the wires after the Headstock is reassembled through the rear inspection hole.

Did you run the power cord outer insulation all the way up to the switch? If yes, where did you run/connect the ground? I think I see a hint of a green wire in the pic, but can't tell for sure.

I knew the ground wire was connected to the motor, but the earlier picture had me confused too. It either came with (or I used) a short length of cable with the outer jacket from the switch down to the motor ... this is the wire you see in the first picture. The outer jacket is stripped off of the main power cord to allow the ground to connect to the motor.
